Move-in Frequently Asked Questions

We are excited to have you join the Campus Housing family! Below are frequently asked questions regarding move in. Should you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 312-355-6300. We look forward to welcoming you to campus on August, 22!

  • What day is move in?
    • Move in is Wednesday, August 22, 2018 between the hours of 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. We encourage all first time freshman and transfer students to plan to move in on August 22.
    • All students with contracts for the year will be emailed a link to sign up for a move in time. This helps traffic flow, and ensure an easier move in process, we ask that you adhere as close as possible to your move in time.
    • Returning students are encouraged to move on Thursday, August 23-Sunday, August 26.
  • How should I pack my items?
    • We encourage you to pack items in boxes, or suitcases, whatever is easiest for you. In order to help our Flames Welcome Cree Members, please label ALL items with you name, building, and room number.
  • What if I can no longer make the move in time I signed up for?
    • You are welcome to arrive anytime throughout the day, however, if it outside of your move in time, you might experience longer lines and a delay in your check in process.
  • Where can I park on August 22?
    • We encourage all residents and families to utilize our drop and go zones to unload with members of our Flames Welcome Crew! Once cars are unloaded, drivers will receive a parking pass, and will be directed to the nearest parking lot.

      • West: Wood Street Parking structure
  • How long will it take to move in?
    • We pride ourselves on a smooth process. We would encourage you to plan for 40-60 minutes from start to finish.
  • Where can I purchase/rent a loft once I arrive on campus?
    • Campus Housing partners with a company called Bedloft.com
    • Visit http://www.bedloft.com to order optional amenities for your room.  These include bedlofts, microfridges, and futons.
    • Please place your order before July 27 to ensure your items are in your room and assembled by move-in day.
  • What should I bring?
  • Where can I find the policies/rules associated with living on-campus?
  • How can I change my meal plan?
    • In order to change your meal plan, visit http://housing.uic.edu/dock, and click on the “meal plan” button. Meal plans can be decreased within the first 10 days of the semester. Meal plans can be increased at any time.
  • What events are planned on campus for move-in weekend?
    • We have a variety of events for residents to participate in! Beginning Wednesday, August 22 at 4:30 PM, each floor will have their First Floor Meeting! (Ask your RA or PM for details). That evening we also have the First Year Welcome Dinner immediately following your floor meeting, as well as programs taking place in each Residence Hall that evening!
    • Campus Housing also hosts New Student Days, which is a series of programs intended to welcome all incoming first year and incoming transfer residents to campus and the city of Chicago. New Student Days is filled with many free and affordable on-campus and off-campus events designed to help first year and transfer residents get acquainted with Chicago, UIC’s campus and each other.
