Resident Director | Position Description

Position Responsibilities Heading link

  • Oversee the administration of a designated residence hall(s) in the context of a non-traditional workday, with an emphasis on student engagement and community development
  • Supervise and develop undergraduate staff, sr. undergraduate staff, and assistant resident director
  • Coordinate the administrative functions of a residence hall such as facility management, maintenance, student employment, management of programming budget, and guest housing
  • Guide residents to engage residential communities supportive of student learning
  • Participate in initiatives that support academic achievement including working with Faculty-in-Residence, collaboration with academic departments, and management of resident intervention
  • Assist with creation, promotion, and development of special lifestyle communities
  • Identify, encourage, and advise student leaders
  • Manage the Community Development Model including tracking and evaluation of community events
  • Serve as conduct officer for both Campus Housing and the Dean of Students in student conduct hearings
  • Act as the first responder to situations that require support to deal with facilities or student crises; execute independent judgment in providing duty coverage for evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Assist in student success initiatives (i.e. Athletic promotion, university open house, Preview Days, orientation)
  • Encourage an environment that is supportive of diversity
  • Serve on Campus Housing, Student Affairs, and/or university-wide committees
  • Assist with the administration and operational duties of department
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Master’s Degree in college student personnel, higher education, student affairs or related field required. Master’s degree must be earned within one month of start date
  • Requires successful completion of background check(s)
  • At least two years of student affairs experience preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, management and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
