Honoring Our Professors’ Excellence Awards

HOPE Awards Logo

Started in 2016, the “Honoring Our Professors’ Excellence” (HOPE) awards are presented by Campus Housing to recognize faculty who have made a lasting impact on the lives of Campus Housing residents. Campus Housing solicits the nominations, and invites the nominating residents to join their nominees, along with department heads and other students, faculty, and staff to a reception. The texts of all nominations are placed around the room for attendees to read as they mingle and enjoy light refreshments. At the formal ceremony, nominees receive a lapel pin and a certificate and have the chance to have a photo taken together with their nominator.

On April 2, 2024, Campus Housing hosted its 8th annual HOPE Reception on the East Terrace of Student Center East. Fifty-three faculty members were recognized in 30 different departments across the campus. The reception was attended by more than one hundred people which comprised student nominators and their faculty nominees, nominees’ guests and department heads, deans, and Campus Housing staff.

Professor Igo, as he is known among his students, through every class session, made it so clear that he is dedicated to his profession and, even more than that, to his students. Almost after every class, he took out of his own time to remain and address any uncertainties I and other students had. Learning under him this past semester has made me so much more confident in my design abilities and career decision, and this, I’m sure, would not have been possible without Professor Igo’s devotion to us students.

This professor [Dr. Julie Chen] has been my professor for countless psychology courses, and has really instilled a great passion for psychology that I had not anticipated myself to be. It’s been a long journey, since my first class with Dr. Chen in introduction to psychology back in 2020 during the pandemic. I remember getting up to participate in her class online which she made engaging. Her other classes ensured that I was building on that foundation and as I look to graduate this semester and attend medical school in the fall, I think Dr. Chen has made an unmistakable mark on passion for learning.

He [Dr. Tomar Kanan] goes above and beyond for his students; whether it is staying up until 1am reviewing for an anatomy test to providing students with extra resources for them to succeed in his class. truly cares for his students.
